There has always been an elegance to the application of excellence.

I visited The Blackstone Hotel Autograph Collection when I was an Event Manager for upscale Chicago clients a few years ago, so I can envision the spaces for corporate functions, artistic gatherings and gourmet soirees. Now, I’m known as an author writing about worlds we love to explore. I love the fact that the hotel is somewhere I’d love to take visitors as well as meet up with locals. It succeeds in travel elegance in a similar fashion to European hotels I explored last summer.
The Blackstone lobby sets the mood with simple elegance and several inviting scenes. A remarkable renovation in 2017 honored the hotel's 107th anniversary with a focus on its “early-21st Century grandeur and craftsmanship,” while incorporating modern updates.
The result is a mélange of spacious boutique luxury, authentic Chicago culture and sophistication carried through to its 335 guestrooms and suites, public and event spaces.
Congrats to The Blackstone Hotel team on the Travel Leisure 2018

Fresh Twist on Timeless Classics
Timothy's Hutch is a creative addition from the 2017 renovation: a lobby lounge that's part mystery-cocktail-soiree meets “Catch me if You Can”. (Ask the staff about The Blackstone’s colorful past including mob bosses, 12 presidents and Isabella sightings here!)
The “nostalgic cocktail program” does classic cocktails proud. There are plenty of drinks based on the hotels storied past. I met several members of The Blackstone’s hospitality team for lively conversation, hors d'oeuvres and a champagne cocktail.
Mark your calendar for the Blackstone Beats music series, featuring live performances from local jazz artists every Wednesday and Friday evening, to extend that classic yet modern take on entertainment.
Timothy's Hutch is best for kicking off the evening, not a nightcap: They’re open Monday - Saturday: 4:30 PM - 9 PM. Last call is at 8:30.
The Blackstone Hotel is certainly ready for their close-up from the Beaux-Arts style façade to the playful lobby accents, artistic conversation pieces and gilded touches throughout the hotel.
(They even made this top Instagram list.)
The Blackstone's location is ideal. You're near music festivals, green space, Lake Michigan and several sailing harbors. You’ll be in the heart of the city's Cultural Mile, close to the Mag Mile and the Loop without being too touristy. The South Loop neighborhood is fun to explore with restaurants, walking paths and plenty of friendly patios.
The Blackstone’s street-level market has outdoor seating and a good mix of hotel guests, the local business community and neighborhood residents. Sage Restaurant Group operates the popular independent Spanish restaurant at the Michigan Avenue entrance, Mercat a la Planxa, offering modern Catalan cuisine. (My gourmet friends swear by their brunch and sangria!)
I’ve heard great things about the suite from Carrie of Appease, my wedding professional friend, who recently did an event there. I have not stayed in a room yet myself, but I’m planning to this summer. Let this blog serve as a tasty amuse-bouche.
The Blackstone Hotel team has been very welcoming and entertaining. It’s so refreshing that there’s no attitude that comes with a multi-million-dollar renovation, just pride in showing it off! We’ve discussed having another art-centric visit and I can see setting a scene here for my Davanti thriller series as main character Siena explores her new chapter in Chicago.
